The Different Types of Wrinkles

At my Fresh Aesthetics clinics in Portadown and Newry, I love educating my patients. It’s one of my values that my patients understand the causes of ageing, so they can make informed choices about their treatments.

Did you know there are two types of wrinkles?⁣

1) “Dynamic wrinkles” that are formed when we move the muscles below the skin, eg when frowning. These can be treated with anti-wrinkle injections using Botox to relax the muscle so it doesn’t “squeeze” the skin so hard! This is a highly effective treatment to prevent these wrinkles becoming permanent ⁣⁣

2) “Static wrinkles” are when these lines become permanently visible, even at rest. This is because of collagen and elastin breakdown beneath the skin surface. They are mainly caused by sun damage and are best avoided by wearing a mineral, broad spectrum SPF every day. They can however be treated with collagen stimulating treatments like Profhilo and Sunekos, medical grade skincare like AlumierMD, and fillers.⁣
